As the most important traditional Chinese festival, Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, represents people’s wishes for family reunion, happiness and auspiciousness. The year of 2021 sees the 10th anniversary of the twinning between Beijing and Dublin.
The gala, specially tailored for Irish audiences by the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ireland, is a splendid showcase of both Chinese and Irish arts and culture. The event will usher in the Year of the Ox, celebrating the two cities’ strong friendship, who share the common determination to fight against the pandemic and provide blessings for a safer and prosperous new year.
With Hostess Chun-ni, Image Ambassador for Happy Spring Festival Overseas, the gala will feature China Broadcasting Orchestra, Band FloruitShow, China Acrobatic Troupe and the renowned Pipa artist Zhang Hongyan. The gala will also feature a wonderful selection of local Irish performers. Additionally, the show will tell of Beijing’s preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics. It will provide information about Beijing’s customs and practices during the traditional celebration, such as dumpling making, window paper-cut decorations, ice lamps and Spring Festival couplets.
The gala is presented by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism with support from Dublin City Council.
